Status Update was created by combining verbatim theatre, qualitative research, and ethnographic techniques. Drawing from the practices of Augusto Boal, I began this process with conversations with my community about the impact of social media on our communal bonds. From the transcript of those interviews, I wrote Status Update that follows the story of a young woman after her fathers' death as she copes with his ever-present virtual life. Traveling through memory, time, and the byways of virtual space Status Update questions what it means to experience loss in a time of ubiquitous connection.
